Hiking Trail Fix Up / Clean Up Project in Memory of Adam E. Onzik

A passionate outdoorsman, Adam was a consummate hiker and backpacker, having conquered some of the most challenging terrain in the US, including adventures in Rocky Mountain National Park, the Grand Canyon, Zion National Park, and the Presidential Peaks of New Hampshire. Adam was a friend to all and shared his wit, enthusiasm and energy with everyone. Adam was a 2003 graduate of Bishop O' Reilly High School and a 2007 graduate of Loyola College in Maryland. He was a member of St. Theresa's Catholic Church in Shavertown. Adam was only 28 years old when he passed away.

Adam most loved the many hours hiking the trails at Back Mountain Rec with his father, Ed Onzik.

On Saturday, July 26, 2014, Ed is sponsoring a Trail Fix Up/Clean Up project on the trails in memory of Adam. He has developed a list of things he would like to accomplish which include cutting back invasive thorns and other encroaching vegetation to improve access on the most used loops, adding definition to those trails that are obviously not often utilized, basically, removing downed trees and cutting back brush to make them passable again, placing some stepping stones across a wet area along the Lower Ridge Trail so that hikers don't have to walk through water when it's flowing across the trail, clearing out around the picnic tables and leveling them, adding a coat of preservative to the picnic tables and replacing any damaged or warped parts, creating a gathering spot near the rock outcropping at the Trail Head as a possible spot for future picnic tables, cutting three or four water diversion channels across the steep grade portion of the Central Trail, just past the Trail Head and picking up trash.

Ed would be happy to complete any part of this list and is asking that anyone willing to help with this project to please contact him at eonzik@premiumbuilders.net

Back Mountain Recreation thanks Ed Onzik for his support in memory of Adam.
